Together: The Promise of Democracy

Can we talk our way into a stronger democracy? Come to the Kenmore Community Club's Dinner and Discussion April 8, 6:30-9pm

Discover the vital role everyday conversations between neighbors play in a democratic system. Conversation not only helps us think and reason through problems, but helps us see, hear, and respect each other and our shared concerns. And these conversations can happen anywhere—a public park, a library, a place of worship, or even the beach.

Yet conversation stands in contrast to the voting booth, in which we try to influence the direction of our society in a very quiet, private space. In this conversation with Professor Yasemin Sari, explore ways we can bridge this gap and create a world where the promise of democracy is brought fully to life.

Yasemin Sari is an assistant professor of philosophy at Seattle University. Her work focuses on the relationship between human rights, recognition, and equality, and investigates the questions of political agency through belonging in a democracy.

Together we can make our democracy stronger by simply getting together and meeting with our friends and neighbors over a meal. Bring a side dish to share, free Pizza by Uncle Peteza provided.
