As part of the Kenmore Community Club's Dinner and Discussions the City of Kenmore will host an informational presentation
Proposition 1 will allow the City of Kenmore to increase the property tax to fund the City's programs that provide housing, utilities and food assistance to our neighbors in need, and to preserve and expand the city's natural environment.
The price of gas, food and housing are all rising, the increase in costs for these over the past 5 years has averaged 5 percent. Similarly the cost of providing city services have increased accordingly, however due to a law passed by the legislature in 2007, Washington cities are limited to increasing property tax revenues to 1 percent. This causes the city of Kenmore and all other cities in the state into what is called a structural deficit. In other words, every year that cities' costs increase more than 1 percent, cities' revenue fall short of covering the rising costs.
The Kenmore Community Club's Dinner and Discussion are chance for community members to hear about current topics, ask questions and learn more about the issues we face.
