New pedestrian and bicycle upgrades coming to 80th Avenue NE in 2026

The preliminary design is complete for new upgrades coming to 80th

Avenue NE. The focus of this project is on multi-modal transportation and providing

improvements to make walking and biking safer and more comfortable between NE

Bothell Way (SR522) and NE 185th Street. This project is primarily funded by a

Washington State Department of Transportation Pedestrian and Bicycle grant.

What’s in store?

This project will include:

• Buffered Bike Lanes: These are bike lanes with extra space to keep cyclists safe from traffic.

• Continuous Sidewalks: No more gaps! We’re filling them in so pedestrians can walk easily and safely.

• Three New Pedestrian Crosswalks: Equipped with Rapid Rectangular Flashing Beacons (RRFB) to make sure drivers see pedestrians and cyclists, especially near school bus stops.

• Curb Extensions: These will shorten the crossing distance and keep pedestrians safer from passing cars.

• Traffic Calming Measures: We’re slowing down traffic to make the whole area safer.

• ADA-Compliant Curb Ramps: Making sure everyone can navigate the area easily.

• New Paint Striping: Reducing lane widths to make bike lanes more visible and prominent.

When is it happening?

Construction is planned to start in the summer of 2026. For now, we’re in the planning phase, with

more updates to come.

This project will make 80th Avenue NE a safer place for everyone who walks, bikes,

and drives through this neighborhood. See below for an image of the street cross

section proposed in the preliminary project design.
