Healthy Eating On a Budget: special event by Kenmore Library and Bastyr



For teens and adults Saturday, June 6, 11am-1:30pm

Join Bastyr University for a free community program on Healthy Eating On a Budget.

This practical, engaging session will share simple ideas for affordable breakfasts, lunches, and dinners, along with easy nutrition tips to help make healthy eating more realistic in everyday life.


Attendees will receive recipes, shopping tips, and food samples, and will have a chance to ask questions and help shape future programs. This event is educational in nature and will not provide individualized medical advice.


Healthy Cooking On a Budget

Visit Bastyr University campus on Saturday, July 11, from 11am-1:30 pm for a free, outdoor cooking demonstration that will build on concepts introduced in the library presentation. Details will be available at the library presentation or go to Bastyr Events for more information.

Wednesday, June 3, 1-2pm

Description: In this beginner-friendly cardmaking workshop participants will create 3-dimensional cards that pop. Various folding and layering techniques will be explored while using colorful paper, paint pens and markers. All supplies are provided. Each participant will leave with 1-3 cards.

Please register. Places for 20, and walk-ins welcome as space allows.



Thursdays, 10am-12pm

Description: Practice speaking English with other English language learners and trained conversation helpers. All levels are welcome.



Wednesday, June 10, 4-5pm

Description: Play and practice chess! All skill levels are welcome. Ages 9 and older, ages 8 and younger with adult.

Friday, June 12, 2-4pm

Description: Come to the library to create casual art in a relaxed and friendly environment with basic arts supplies, tea, snacks and quiet music. You can also bring your own project to work on!

In June, we will have a variety of supplies from past art drop-ins for you to use in any way you wish: 

Coloring, watercolors, Sharpie tie-dye, embroidery, collage, paper beads, punch needles, sumi-e, origami, tissue paper, paper dyes, 1.5" button maker, and 3D pens.

Description: Smitten Kitchen Keepers: New Classics for Your Forever Files  by Deb Perelman. Try making one or more recipes of your choice from this month's cookbook! Send a photo of your finished dish or dishes to the librarian host along with brief comments about your experience.

We cannot share food at these meetings; instead watch a slide show of our cooking adventures and share successes and failures!
