SR 522 construction nears completion

Paving work continues through August with painting and landscaping in September

If you travel east of Kenmore at all, you've been navigating a gauntlet of cones and flaggers over the last several years as the WSDOT has widened and added sidewalks, bus lanes and utility upgrades to the vital stretch highway. You will be relieved to know the end is in sight.

The Contractor has completed installation of all nine retaining walls along the north and south sides of SR 522 on western Bothell city limit. They are now constructing the new westbound lanes by grading the subgrade as paving began mid-August and expected to last approximately three weeks. Striping of traffic lanes and construction of the median will follow the paving. Construction of sidewalk, planter strips, driveways, and street lighting along the north side will continue through until project completion, which is planned for late this fall.

This project is a continuation of the SR 522 Stage 1 and Stage 2 improvements. It will provide road improvements, Business Access and Transit (BAT) lanes from the end of Stage 1 and 2 improvements to 83rd Place NE (the new western City limits). This stage of the project is part of the Sound Transit SR 522/NE 145th Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) project that will widen the existing lanes of SR 522 and create BAT lanes in both directions.

Additionally, this project will add a sidewalk on the north side, install center medians and street lights, and relocate utilities underground.
