Sound Transit Stride S3 Line to begin construction in 2026

Construction is expected to begin on Sound Transit's Stride S3 Line in 2026, with service targeted to begin in 2028.
The project includes three new stations in Kenmore at 61st Avenue NE, 68th Avenue NE, and the Kenmore Park and Ride, with additional parking capacity planned at the Park and Ride by 2034 to support more riders.
The Stride S3 Line is set to bring faster, more reliable bus rapid transit service through Kenmore, connecting communities along SR 522/ NE 145th Street from Shoreline to Bothell.
Over the past decade, Kenmore has been preparing for this growth through road, intersection, and sidewalk improvements to enhance safety and accommodate increased transit usage.
A significant feature of the Stride S3 Line is its battery-electric bus fleet. These zero-emission buses provide quieter, cleaner, and more comfortable rides for passengers, helping the region move toward a more sustainable transportation network.
At a recent panel hosted by the Bothell Kenmore Chamber, representatives from Sound Transit, the Port of Seattle, and the cities of Kenmore and Bothell discussed how improved transit and new connections will support small businesses, increase foot traffic, and expand workforce mobility. With modern transit, new stations, and better connections to the Light Rail and regional hubs, the Stride S3 Line positions Kenmore for improved mobility, cleaner transportation, and stronger opportunities for residents and businesses alike.
