The construction project on 61st Avenue NE corridor is progressing on schedule and remains on budget.

The project includes re-aligned sidewalk between NE 190th Street and NE 197th Street to preserve existing street trees, sidewalk panel repair on the east side of the roadway (north of NE 197th Street). In addition, new buffered bike lanes are to be installed along 61st Avenue NE from NE 190th Street to the north city limits,  safe pedestrian crossings of 61st Avenue NE at NE 193rd Street, 60th Avenue NE, and NE 200th Street, and improvements to the 61st Avenue NE / NE 193rd Street intersection.

Several major milestones have been completed, including all underground drainage work and a new continuous sidewalk on the east side of the roadway.

Crews are now focusing on the west side, where they’ll finish installing new curbs, gutters, sidewalks, and driveways through October.

About 50 new trees will be planted along the corridor (where space allows) through November. Once planting wraps up, the site will pause for the winter, with final paving and striping scheduled for spring 2026 when warmer, drier weather returns.
