Juanita Dr. closed Mon-Fri 7am to 3pm through mid-May

Starting March 24, Juanita Dr NE will be CLOSED between NE 153rd Pl and NE 155th Pl, Monday – Friday 7am – 3PM, through mid-May 2021.

The closure will require following a signed detour route for the morning commute on that route and stop-and-go the rest of the day due to single-lane passage controlled by a temporary traffic signal. Drivers are encouraged to find alternate routes like Simonds Road NE when possible and expect lengthy delays.

Starting on March 15, traffic on Juanita Dr NE between NE 153rd Pl and NE 155th Pl was reduced to one lane, controlled by temporary traffic signals. This traffic configuration will be in place 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, for approximately two months.

This revision is required so that crews can install a soldier pile retaining wall on the west side of the roadway. Drivers and cyclists are urged to proceed with caution through the work zone and obey the 25 MPH speed limit. Tickets will be issued for violations. Cyclists are asked to not deviate from regular roadway traffic to avoid traffic queues.

This project will provide a number of improvements for drivers, cyclists, transit and pedestrians. The projects includes:

  • 1.5 miles of new sidewalk and landscaping on the east side of Juanita Dr from 143rd St to NE 170th St

  • Buffered bicycle lanes in each direction

  • Bus stop improvements

  • Improved street lighting

  • A new storm drainage system

  • Minor traffic signal modifications
