On Monday, Oct. 19, Sound Transit began closing southbound 68th Ave NE between SR 522 (NE Bothell Way) and NE 175th Street for nighttime boring across the road.

Crews are working from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. Monday through Thursday, as daytime work hours are not long enough to set up and complete the work. One northbound 68th Ave NE traffic lane will remain open during this work. Traffic configurations will change during work hours, but traffic flow will remain the same. Pay attention to all detour signage. See map for road closure and detour routes.

This work is necessary for utility work at the westbound 68th Ave NE station. Utility and road improvements are key to ensuring the Stride S3 buses can quickly and efficiently move through the route. This work will allow Sound Transit to deliver fast, frequent, and reliable rapid transit service along S3. For more information on Stride S3 bus service, visit the Stride webpage.

This work may include potholing so underground utilities can be avoided during nighttime boring. Residents should expect to hear construction noise during nighttime work hours.

Eastbound drivers can access southbound 68th Ave NE by following the detour at 73rd Ave NE and NE 175th Ave (see map below).

Westbound drivers can access southbound 68th Ave NE by following the detour at 73rd Ave NE, turning right at NE 175th Ave then left at 68th Ave NE; or by taking the detour on 67th Ave NE around the block and turning left onto eastbound SR 522 at 68th Ave NE to follow the eastbound detour (see map below).

The Burke-Gilman Trail will not be affected by this work and will remain open for cyclists and pedestrians. A pedestrian detour will direct people to the Burke-Gilman Trail around the work area.
