A Program to Bring Heat Pump Savings to Residents

Kenmore, WA – The City of Kenmore is excited to announce the launch of Energize Kenmore, a new heat pump direct discount program available now. This program provides an immediate $2,000 discount at the time of purchase when residents switch from oil or gas furnaces to electric heat pumps. Low and moderate-income residents may also qualify for a bonus rebate of $4,000.

An inverter-driven, variable-speed heat pump can be 2 to 4 times more efficient than a high-efficiency gas furnace because it moves heat rather than creating it through combustion. This is similar to how a refrigerator works; moving heat out of its enclosed space into the kitchen. Heat pumps also provide cooling in addition to heat, making them a great option to replace a furnace and add air conditioning to one’s home.

"With an increasing number of hot days in the summer becoming the norm, air conditioning has become more of a necessity,” said Nina Rasmussen, the City’s Climate Action Plan Program Manager. “Energize Kenmore intends to make that more achievable while contributing to our climate action goals.”

Installing a new heat pump heating and cooling system can be a large financial investment. The Energize Kenmore program aims to help lessen the financial burden on residents while helping the City move toward emissions reduction goals. Carbon emissions associated with residential buildings and energy make up the largest sector of emissions in Kenmore at 43%. By helping residents switch away from more carbon-intensive fuels, the City is proactively working to lower the community’s emissions.

The City is working with Gensco, a regional HVAC distributor, to administer the program. Energize Kenmore will be offered until the end of the year, or until program funds are expended.
