Shoreline Regional Fire Authority Chief Matt Cown explained the extensive range of services the newly merged Fire Department offer the cities of Shoreline, Woodway, Lake Forest Park and Kenmore.

Chief Matt Cowan of the newly formed Shoreline Regional Fire Authority spoke to a crowd of about 30 people at the June 11, 2025 Potluck with Presentations held at the Kenmore Community Club. The merged departments extend the range of services provided to the more than 100,000 people in the northshore area.

Cowan pointed out that despite the Fire Department's name more than 70 percent of the calls received are medical emergencies. Other calls include technical and water rescues and mobile integrated health calls, which Cowan said is an advanced service the department prides itself on.

The Mobile Integrated Health team is made up of two clinical social workers and a firefighter/EMT. The team provides the fire departments with additional resources to address the increasingly complicated medical and psychosocial situations faced in the community following traumatic incidents.

Taken all together Cowan says the regional authority has a Class 2 rating from the Washington Surveying and Rating Bureau (WSRB). This rating is considered very high, placing it in the top 2% of all fire departments in the state.
