The Kenmore City Council's 6 percent tax on cable tv adopted at its July 11, 2022 meeting goes into effect this fall and should be reflected on the cable tv portion of your cable bill in October or November. The tax is calculated only on the tv portion of the bill and not on the internet access part of the service.
The tax is earmarked for the city's general fund and was adopted as part of a package of revenue enhancements identified in the city's Financial Sustainability Plan. The goal of the plan was to head off a $2 million shortfall in the city budget projected to occur by 2026 if nothing changed in the city budget. With the new tax and other measures adopted by the plan, the budget should be balanced through 2028.
