Our Mission

The mission of the Club is to foster inclusive community participation by preserving and proffering a historic landmark facility for arts, youth, education, civics, recreation, celebration, worship, and locally based human services that elevate personal and collective well-being in our community.

Our History

The Kenmore Community Club predates schools, libraries, and even governments in our area. A group of citizens who understood the deep fulfillment of connecting face-to-face began meeting in 1925 as a way to work together on community needs. Residents were invited to meet at Mitchell’s store at the corner of 68th Avenue NE and Bothell Way as you can read in the book Kenmore by The Lake. The group next issued a bond and built the Club. According to History Link, "in March of 1930, Kenmore Community Club opened its doors, bought a piano, and formed an orchestra. Dances were held on meeting nights after business was completed. The Club was organized primarily for citizens to discuss local issues such as road construction, fire protection, and voter polls. Over the decades it has served as a temporary home to multiple church groups, an activities center, including the annual Klondike Night (celebrating Kenmore’s connection to Seattle’s water system), plus orchestra concerts, dances, card parties, and potlucks."

We exist today for the same reasons they did then. To form ties with our neighbors. To promote local businesses and eat local food. To hear local speakers. To admire local talent. And most importantly, to make memories with each other and give shape to time. 

​

You may wonder, as we do, whether it is crazy to promote face-to-face encounters in the age of social distancing digitized social interaction. But if you feel, as we do, that getting together is more important and fulfilling now than ever, then I'm sure we'll see you at an event very soon. Our club is booked nearly every day of the week, so take heart in knowing you are not alone.

Current Board of Directors

Officers and Trustees are elected each year in November, with new officers beginning their terms in January. Meetings are the 4th Wednesday each month. Write to president@kenmorecommunity.club to get on the agenda.
